marbury 3

The New York Knicks have just done one of the hardest things to do in sports—not just win a title, but three-peat. Something I genuinely thought I would never experience in my lifetime. As much as I wish this were reality… it isn’t. It’s 2K. But still, my Stephon Marbury Hall of Fame chase is on a great trajectory.

We just completed the three-peat after defeating the 70–12 Minnesota Timberwolves. Marbury added to his accolades and put up great numbers once again. I feel very confident that I’ll be able to complete this challenge. I like my chances.

Winning this ring was far from easy. The Timberwolves were a force to be reckoned with, owning the best record since the 72–10 Chicago Bulls. They had a lethal combination with Rondo at point guard, KG at power forward, and—this was the real problem—Yao Ming at center. You can imagine the nightmare matchup that created. Still, we managed to pull it off in a hard-fought seven-game series.

Melo got his first ring—the one he never got in his actual playing career—and he earned Finals MVP. Both he and Marbury absolutely balled out, but Melo edged him just enough.

Marbury added yet another championship to his résumé, along with another All-Star selection and a Second Team All-NBA nod after averaging 22 points and 9 assists while shooting 53/44/87. Completely deserved. Melo also added a First Team All-NBA appearance. LeBron James won his first MVP and DPOY this season (2007–08), and Jamal Crawford had a huge year for us, winning Sixth Man of the Year—the first of his career. We’ll see if he can shoot like real-life Jamal going forward.

This offseason, I made a few roster shakeups. Shaq decided to retire, but I reversed it because I wanted to add him for one final season. I traded Stromile Swift and Jamal Crawford to the Lakers for him. The Lakers were awful last year, so it wasn’t hard to make that deal.

The reason I moved Crawford and brought in Shaq was because I had positioned myself to draft OJ Mayo. Having both OJ and JC felt redundant, especially since Trevor Ariza is starting at the two between Marbury and Melo. OJ had similar ratings to Crawford and was a better defender, so it was a no-brainer. I also drafted Donte Greene from Syracuse because I loved his lone season there.

I feel confident in this team again, but winning four straight titles will be tough. I’m very interested to see how Shaq fits. I think he will, even at his age. One thing I miss about older 2Ks, though, is being able to set your first, second, and third scoring options. Unless I’m missing it—because I might be—2K needs to bring that back.

There are still a few years before it’s time to draft Jimmer, but I’m absolutely adding him when that moment comes. Depending on roster fit, I might also try to bring in AI for a season and use him as a sixth man, just to have fun with it (pause). I’d love to win him Sixth Man of the Year—though I also have that same goal for Marbury down the line.

The long-term dream is to eventually get Lonzo, Ja, and Zion rocking the Garden together, because why not? That would be a blast. Right now, though, D-Rose is in Chicago, Westbrook and KD are in OKC… maybe they add Harden? Will Steph end up in Golden State? Guess we’ll find out.

Stay tuned to see if Marbury makes the Hall. I think he’s absolutely on pace:

3x Champion
2x Finals MVP
2x MVP
5x All-Star
2x First Team All-NBA
1x Second Team All-NBA

The case is getting stronger by the season.
